Delevoping Young People's Attitudes for Work

In survey after survey employers state that when recruiting staff, work skills and the right attitude are as important, if not more important, than academic qualifications.

“They particularly value skills such as communication, team working and problem solving. Job applicants who can demonstrate that they have developed these skills will have a real advantage.”
Digby Jones – Director-General of the Confederation of British Industry.

This pack is designed to help students find out about the skills employers value - what they are, why employers value them and how they are used in the workplace. It also contains exercises designed to help students review their own skill levels, develop and practice the skill and identify further steps they can take to continue to improve and develop the skills as they progress through their education.

Covering over 30 skills ranging from reading, listening and working in a team to organising information, using IT and managing time, this pack supports learning for work in line with the Work Related Learning Strategy for Keystage 4.
