The original materials for this pack were produced by a group of careers staff working in the West Midlands region. They carried out a survey which showed the lack of resources available for work with excluded and disaffected students at key stage 4 and those at risk of failing in the transition from school to training or work. These young people were either not successful in gaining a job or ran into problems at an early stage and then dropped out of employment. The reasons for this ranged from poor self esteem coupled with few qualifications to a mismatch between expectations of work and the reality of the modern labour market.
Comprising 18 training session plans and 75 pages of photocopiable training materials, it is ideal for use with young, disaffected students in schools, pupil referral units, young offenders institutions and other special support units; trainees involved in work based training and unemployed young people.
