Delevoping Young People's Attitudes for Work

In survey after survey employers state that when recruiting staff, work skills and the right attitude are as important, if not more important, than academic qualifications.

The latest CIPD/KPMG quarterly Labour Market Outlook, a survey of over 1,400 UK employers, shows that while a quarter of employers list literacy as one of the key attributes they are looking for when recruiting from the current crop of school leavers, and over a fifth list numeracy, the attributes that top the list are communication skills, work ethic – the basic desire to do a good job – and personality.

This pack is designed to help students find out about the personal qualities and attitudes employers value - what they are, how they are demonstrated and how they can make a difference in the workplace. It also contains exercises designed to help students review their own personal attitudes and qualities and consider ways in which they might develop and use these attitudes as they progress through their education.

Covering around 50 qualities and attitudes ranging from adaptability, determination and trustworthiness to creativity, honesty and sensitivity, this pack supports learning for work in line with the Work Related Learning Strategy for Keystage 4.
